Over the Atlas to the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs
We collect you early from your riad and leave Marrakech while the city is still quiet. The road climbs steadily into the High Atlas, past walnut terraces and Berber villages the colour of the mountain itself, until it reaches the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 metres. After the descent we turn towards Ait Ben Haddou, the fortified ksar on the old caravan route to Timbuktu — you'll walk up through its lanes to the granary at the summit for the view over the palm valley. Lunch in the village, then Ouarzazate and the long, cinematic drive east into the Dades Valley, where the rock formations glow red at the end of the afternoon.
Along the way
- Tizi n'Tichka pass and Atlas viewpoints
- UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou ksar
